Level 2 Award in Effective Listening Skills 

(pending CPCAB Approval) 

This qualification is designed for candidates who wish to develop their listening skills for use in a variety of personal and professional and competencies to use counselling skills ethically and safely in a variety of contexts and roles

This qualification is for:

 Anyone wanting to explore themselves for personal development. 

- improve communication

- improve work relationships

- enhance personal relationships

- promote better community relations.

This qualification does not lead directly to an employed role. However, it could enhance an existing voluntary or paid role or increase the general employability of those seeking to enter the job market.

Entry requirements

No previous training or experience is required to undertake this qualification. (from age 14 onwards.)

Once candidates have completed this qualification, those aged 16 or over may wish to progress to Level 2 Award in Introduction to Counselling Skills. And you do not require to be interviewed for eligibility. 

Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills 

CPCAB Approved

This qualification is designed to give learners the underpinning knowledge, skills and competencies to use counselling skills ethically and safely in a variety of contexts and roles.

This qualification is for:

Those starting the first level of training as a professional counsellor

Those who want to learn counselling skills in other professional or helping roles

Those who want to improve their professional and personal relationships as part of personal development.

This qualification could lead to employment or increase employability for those whose role is to support others in e.g. health and social care work, teaching and learning, advocacy and mediation, support and project work, other helping roles.

It provides additional skills for those already in employment likely to lead to increased opportunities for promotion and advancement.

No previous training or experience is required to undertake this qualification, however, you will be interviewed for eligibility.

Successful candidates may progress onto the Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies.

Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies 

CPCAB Approved 


This qualification is intended for candidates who have already acquired a recognised qualification in counselling skills and want to:

take the next step in training to become a counsellor

learn more about counselling theory, ethics and mental health

be prepared for work as a professional counsellor in an agency setting

This qualification does not lead to employment. It is designed as a pre-practitioner training for professional counselling qualifications but it could also lead to employment in a related field.

Entry requirements

You must have undertaken counselling skills training, e.g. our Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills or equivalent units/qualifications of at least 75 Guided Learning Hours.

Successful learners may progress onto the Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling.
